The Talon Marks often gets asked to supply copies of photos it takes. While the paper likes to help the members of its community, the printing of photos creates several problems, including:

a. Sometimes we no longer have the negatives available to us.

b. As we don't always print photos in our process any more, printing a copy amounts to work outside our normal procedures.

c. If we do print a photo we want to keep the original in our files for a variety of archival purposes.

The policy for printing/supplying photos will be as follows:

a. We never loan negatives.

b. A rate card for photo reproductions will be established.

c. In addition to recuperating costs for reproductions, the journalism department, when appropriate and possible, will compensate original photographers $2 for each reproduction sold or authorized for reprint in other campus publications, such as sports schedules, college catalogs and class schedules. This policy applies for only one year or while negatives are on file in the journalism department.

d. The department will not authorize reproduction of student photographs when it does not have ownership or possession of negatives.

e. Whether the department authorizes reproduction of student photographs in other college publications, it will vigorously attempt to assure students get photo byline credit for photos reproduced.

f. Staff members should not make individual arrangements in conflict with the above regulations as it causes long-term problems for the paper.

g. All photo orders should be placed through the Journalism Lab Aide, who is responsible for collecting and depositing monies.
