SECTION TWO
Intro to Print Media
Issue date: 5/15/02 Section: 100x MM Online
|
We'll study newspaper history by grouping changes by eras and wars. We'll look at how newspapers started as a simple medium and evolved into a mass medium with the advent of the Penny Press. Today's equivalents of the Penny Press would be USA Today newspaper or the growth of the World Wide Web.
After a quick look at magazines, newsletters and books we'll look at the future of print in a digital age.
When we go to the movies we'll look at delightful nostalgic look at the Jazz Age of journalism in The Front Page (Walter Matthau/Jack Lemon version). We'll also look at another comedy about newspapers today in The Paper and a serious look at the magazine industry with Shattered Glass.
Test Two will cover the lectures, assignments and movies of Section Two and the textbook chapters on Books, Newspapers and Magazines.
